Hummingbirds are very small birds with a high metabolism. A great deal of energy is spent flying, so they must feed almost constantly. Hummingbirds can consume up to twice their body weight in nectar every day. They usually feed on nectar and insects. Hummingbirds actually lap up the nectar with their tongues. A lot of people think that hummingbirds have a hollow tongue like a straw. Their tongues do have grooves on the sides that collect nectar. When the bill constricts, the hummingbird can swallow the nectar from flowers and feeders.

ICE is Nice
ICE Kugels are a very unique design in glass kugel art. These kugels are made to look and feel as a colored, crushed ice ball. The kugel starts out as clear glass, then is gently "fuse in" chips and chunks of colored glass. This gives the outside of the ball a granular texture. The ball is then treated with a luster component, which adds an iridescent shine and depth to the surface. The end result is dramatic!

Something Unique for Anyone!
Kugels normally are referred to as Friendship Balls
in the United States. Since all our Kugels come
from Europe, they will be referred to as
Kugels on our web site. Kugel is German for Glass Ball
and also is the traditional name for them. Kugels
are the traditional choice for decorations in central Europe.
Each Kugel is hand blown glass, and completely unique.
Kugels are displayed from interior arches,
ceiling fixtures, curtain rods, Christmas Trees,
holiday garland, hand railings, or wherever you like.

Kugel Christmas Ornaments
What is a Kugel ? Kugels are the ancestors of the later glass Christmas ornaments. Kugel is the German word for ball or sphere. In Germany kugels are usually called Biedermeierkugeln what refers to their time of origin, namely the Biedermeier period (about 1830). At that time German glassmakers started a hand blown tradition which lasted almost until to the beginning of World War I. The neat thing about kugels are all the wounderful colors they are made of. Which makes them perfect for decorating not only at Christmas but all year around!
